禅修是什么?明海法师讲禅修(中英双语)

  现在我们开始讲禅修。禅修是让我们永远活在当下,专注所做的每件事。每个当下保持正念,这就是禅修。禅修有两个重点:第一是专注,第二是从对过去与未来的恐惧、担忧、焦虑中解脱

  So now we have touched Zen’s practice. Zen’s practice is to always live at the present time, to concentrate what you are doing. That’s the Zen’s practice. In this practice there are two important points: One is concentration and the other is to be free from the fear, worry, anxiety about past and future.

  对过去,我们可能常常会后悔,或者产生其他情绪。对未来,又常常太在乎结果。我们做任何事,通常都会有两种结果,比如比赛,输和赢。日常生活中,你们有没有注意到,自己的心常常担心结果到底会向哪个方向发展?在学校需要面对考试,考试的时候就担心是否能通过。我不太了解德国的情况。在中国,每年夏天6月7日到9日,这三天时间对很多年轻人来说是最重要的。很多人都需要经历这个夏季的高考决定他们未来的命运。你们可以想象一下,在这种情况下,他们大多数人都会在考试之前就很担心结果。

  As for the past, maybe very often it brings us some regrets or many other emotions; for the future, you will be attracted by the result. Everything you do very often have two results: for the games to win or to lose. In everyday life, have you noticed your mind always worrying about the result in these two directions? In school, you have to face the examinations. When facing examination, you will be worried about whether you will succeed or failed. I am not so familiar with your country’s situation. In China, every summer in June, from 7 to 9, three days are the most important days for young people. Many of them will pass through the summer examinations which will decide their future fate. So you can imagine, on this occasion, most of them will be worried about the results at the beginning of the examination.

  每次做一件事的时候,很可能一直都在担心结果:担心会是谁,什么时候,这样还是那样……这就意味着每天每时每刻的不同选择都会带来焦虑、紧张和压力,身心俱疲。所以禅修首先是训练专注力,同时内心远离对未来的焦虑不安。或许有人很难想象一个人可以有这样的心境:不再担忧未来,也不被过去的情绪困扰,但事实上这种心境每个人都有。修禅正是为了帮助我们找到这种内心的状态,远离担忧、焦虑、种种情绪困扰。

  Each time when you do something, very probably you will lose yourself in the worry about the result, who, when, this, that. That means everyday, every moment, different choices will bring anxiety, tension and pressure, both in physical and mental. So Zen’s practice is the first training of concentration, at the same time to be free from the kind of inner anxiety about the future. Maybe someone cannot imagine that kind of condition which is free from worrying about the future or emotion in the past, but it exists in everyone. The task of Zen’s practice is to help us to find that inner condition, which is free from all the worries, anxieties and emotional intention.

  事实上,我们在生活中会遇到很多逆境,无论在学校还是在未来的生活中,都需要面对。我们需要做好准备,需要担心很多事情,所以我觉得现在对我们来说最重要的就是清楚地了解自己的心,了解自己。禅宗认为,心如明镜,能够照见一切。但常常因为我们内心的执著,看不到很多事情,而只能见到某些特定的方面。这种情况下,内心的镜子就不起作用,我们也不能完全认识到观心的益处。

  As a matter of fact, there are so many battles in our life, both in school and in the future life you have to face. You have to do preparation and you have to worry about many things. So I think the most important thing for us now is to know clearly about our spirit, our mind, to know about ourselves. Zen’s teaching tells us that our mind itself is a sparkling mirror which reflects everything. But very often because of many attachments lying inside, we will ignore many things and be attached with some special objects. On that occasion, that mirror inside can not work, or can not see its benefit totally.

  刚才,我们讨论了比赛队员的心态。佛教称这种心态为“三摩地”,意思是专注、觉知、正念。在专注和放松的这种情况下,内在的创造的能量都能释放出来。对我们来说,如果你的训练还不到位、还不充足,那当你专注于事物时,你会因为担忧结果而紧张。而这种紧张,会降低我们创造的能量。

  Just now we have discussed on the spiritual condition of the team members. In Buddhism, we call this kind of spiritual condition “samadhi”, which means concentration, awareness, mindfulness. Both on the occasion of concentration and relaxation, that inner energy of creation will be liberated. For us, if you have not practiced well, very often when you concentrate on something, because of worrying about the result, you will become tensed. And this kind of tension will reduce our energy of creation.

  如果你想专注,那就要放松,这样你的创造力就会释放。但经常是我们想要放松的时候,却失去了创造力或专注力。那就意味着你没有办法让自己的注意力稳定。这正是我们的问题。禅修可以帮助我们解决这个问题,可以让我们的心解放,回到它的本来面目,我们把这种本来面目叫做心性。所以你们可以了解到,禅修是多么重要。

  If you want to concentrate, you will not be tensed and your energy of creation will be detached. Very often when we want to become relaxed, we lose that creative energy or concentration. That means you cannot keep your attention stable. That’s our problem. To do Zen’s practice can help us to solve this problem, to free our spirit back to the essence, which we call the essence of our mind. So you can see how important Zen’s practice is.
